Average Net Worth of Billionaires of Each EU and US State

The chart above shows the net worth of the billionaires of each state divided by the population of billionaires in said state.  Unlike the previous metric which measured the net worth of billionaires against the total population, this metric shows how wealth is distributed amongst the billionaires of every state.  Only US states have billionaires who average over $10 billion of net worth.

Findings

  • The difference between the state with the highest average billionaire net worth, Kansas, and the state with the lowest (that has billionaires), New Hampshire, is $30.6 billion.
  • Kansas has 28.82 times the average billionaire net worth that New Hampshire does.
  • The difference between the US state with the highest average billionaire net worth, Kansas, and the EU state with the highest, France, is $23.69 billion.
  • Kansas has 3.96 times the average billionaire net worth that France does.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 28 EU states is $2.46 billion and the mean $2.66 billion.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 20 EU states that do have billionaires is $3.95 billion and the mean $3.72 billion.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 50 US states is $3.68 billion and the mean $5.32 billion.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 42 US states that do have billionaires is $3.93 billion and the mean $6.33 billion.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 78 EU and US states is $3.63 billion and the mean $4.36 billion.
  • The median average net worth of billionaires in the 70 EU and US states that do have billionaires is $3.95 billion and the mean $5.49 billion.
  • Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Dakota, and Vermont do not have a single billionaire.
  • Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, and Slovenia do not have a single billionaire.

  • Billionaire data is from 2018.
  • EU population data is from 2011; US population data is from 2010.
  • Figures are rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Details

California which has the highest billionaire net worth overall, ranks ninth when its population is taken into account, and 16th in this metric.  The leader in the per capita metric, Wyoming, ranks 18th when it comes to total net worth of billionaires and seventh when it comes to the average net worth of its billionaires.  Kansas, which ranks first in the average net worth of its billionaires, ranks 16th in total wealth of billionaires, and seventh in per capita wealth of billionaires.

Of the 12 states whose billionaires have a total net worth of over $100 billion, Washington, Arkansas, France, and California rank first, second, third, and fourth, respectively and all four have an average net worth of over $5 billion.
