Fuck New York

New York skyline
Remember when this city mattered?  When it was relevant?

Art Scene sign
When the art meant something and did not chase the cash in hand?

Tenements
When we could afford to live in the shitty box downtown?

SoHo store
Fuck this New York City man!

I am going to the hinterland!

I read the Rebecca Wolff piece earlier this week. I like how you incorporated it into this.

I read that and her youth resembled that of a bridge-and-tunnel girl. Kissing bouncers to get into clubs? Really, this was the highlight of her youth in the old New York? Please, this was a fun and exciting town, and that sort of thing could happen anywhere. That one anecdote ruined the whole essay for me.

That last picture looks a lot like the East Village in the 1790s. All of you are part of the New New York. Get over yourselves, and get off my lawn (that you converted into a concrete sidewalk, assholes!).

Fire escapes are nasty blemishes.
