Cooking in the Snow

We are bracing for a winter storm in New York City where by sometime early tomorrow morning there will be a couple of inches of "wet" snow (as opposed to dry snow - what would Wittgenstein say?).  A couple of inches people!  Calm yourselves.  Anyway, here is a woman that is more hardy than your typical New York newsman by actually venturing outside in the snow.  Oh my!  Be careful!  That stuff is dangerous!

Not only does she dare to venture out in the snow but to cook in it as well.  All the local newscasts just had a heart attack.  She even refuses to use fossil fuels to do it.  What kind of witchery is this?  She puts her food in some kind of magic box that is so hot it turns batter into bread and makes rice ready to eat.  And this box is standing there outside in the cold snow.  Maybe that is what the people in the television are warning us about.  We will boil in the snow.

Apparently there is more to this than meets the eye.  Apparently this woman lives by a big "salt" lake.  It is also sunny when it snows.  "And we have full sun, there is not a cloud in the sky," says she.  This must be some kind of magical place that defies the physical laws of nature.  A lake that makes salt, a sun that makes snow, and a box that cooks without using any kind of fuel.  Is this real?  She then informs us that the rice will never burn, even if it is out there for two to three hours in a 300°F magical box!  What?  Where is this magical land?  Why must I be in New York City where the oven barely works, the snow turns into gray slush within a couple of hours, and the food cannot be cooked outdoors in the middle of winter?

Maybe we should all head for the wilderness and get in touch with our roots and nature.  Maybe that is what we "hardened" New Yorkers who dare not do anything outdoors in the storm need right now.  Head to the park, heed no warnings, and have as much fun as you possibly can.  Call in sick tomorrow and go sledding down the hills of your local park!  And if it is even possible in this weird city of ours, cook yourself some food in a magic box.

I love her, so calm, so relaxed, so at peace with herself.
