The French Head to the Polls for the First Round

It is the eve of the first round (should any candidate miraculously surpass the threshold of a majority, it will also be the only round) and the candidates are closing their campaigns as it is a French rule that the day before elections no campaigning or polling is to take place.  French-speaking media outlets in Switzerland and Belgium still will cover the race anyway as the rule does not apply to them.  On Sunday, one may keep track of election results which will start to be released at 2:30 p.m. EDT (8:30 p.m. CEDT - French local time).  A terror strike just days before the election has resulted in three candidates (Macron, Le Pen, Fillon) ending their campaigns one day early.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot but Le Pen and Melenchon are hot on his heels. The Storming of the Le Pen Headquarters

The only candidate that managed to make news this week was Marine Le Pen but it was all bad news.  The race has become a four way race between Macron, Le Pen, Fillon, and Mélenchon.  The top two vote getters just nine days from now will advance to the second round where they will face off against each other.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot. Flour Power

The candidates held their very inclusive debate (in French) which included six lesser known hopefuls who are polling between zero and five percent.  Aside from that, this was a very uneventful week save for the fact that someone doused Fillon in flour.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot. The Socialists Ditch the Socialist

A Debate That Did Not Answer Many Questions

The candidates held their three hour debate this past Monday and according to polls, not one candidate really stood out as the winner.  Polls also suggest it is a two way race in the first round between Macron and Le Pen, however that does not account for the nearly half of the people having no clue who they plan on voting for.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot. Prosecuting the Presidential Candidates

Prosecutors are the stars of the campaign this week as they are looking into everything and pressing charges left, right, and center.  Fillon's suits are even being investigated.  This coming Monday however, the candidates will get a chance to reclaim the spotlight from all these Clouseaus as they get to debate each other.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot. French Cuisine Meets French Politics

While Fillon struggles to keep his campaign alive while authorities raid his place, Macron is turned into a macaron with the introduction of some egg on his face.  Le Pen on the other hand has troubles of her own with the European Union she abhors, as they just lifted her parliamentary immunity.  Judging by the progress of these campaigns, we may have several candidates in jail by the time the French people get to elect their next president.  C'est la vie as the French would say.  This week's installment of the 2017 French presidential candidates power rankings sees Emmanuel Macron holding on to the top spot.
